z/Scope Terminal Emulator TN3270 and TN5250 hosts

In a recent post we wrote about SSL/TLS and how recent updates deprecated SSL and TLS 1.1, making TLS 1.2 & TLS 1.3 the new security standards for highly secure websites.
We noticed a rise in tech support requests regarding Transport Layer Security 1.2 and how to change the security protocol and port on TN3270 connections.
We’ve prepared this guide to implement TLS 1.2 in your z/Scope Express 3270 Terminal Emulator. The same steps can be followed on z/Scope Classic to enable TLS 1.2 for any TN3270 hosts connection that requires it.

1) Open up z/Scope Express 3270, click on Options -> Configuration Settings.

2) Click on Connections.

3) Click on Host, and check the “SSL” checkbox. Automatically, a new tab called “SSL” will appear on the left-hand side menu within the connection properties window.

4) Double click on the connection you want to modify.

5) Click on the new “SSL” tab, and select TLS 1.x.

6) Click “Apply” and “Finish”.

You should be ready to try the connection with the new settings. Make sure that you have the right port settings. On some cases, the use of the new TLS factor requires a different port. Have any questions? Contact our technical support for further assistance.
About TLS
Formerly, TLS was also known as “SSL” or “SSL 1.1” (instead of “TLS 1.1”).
TLS/SSL protocol was supported since we released the first z/Scope version, and up to this year, it was a highly secure standard accepted by most hosts.
All our terminal emulation software solutions support TLS 1.2 on its latest builds:
